My Decade in Review

It is now the end of a decade, 10 years behind us! This decade started off good, full of changes in the middle, and ended with a fresh start, just in time for a new chapter.

It’s easy for us to get caught up with the negatives that happened throughout the years and not see the good that came out of the bad. I wanted to review the past 10 years and share what I learned and experienced.

A Decade in Review

Got accepted to SDSU!

Joined Kai Elua Outrigger Paddling team where I met some of my best friends Lucia and Adeline.

NYE Mammoth Trip.

Spring Break 2011 in Key West, best spring break hands down! I got to visit one of my close friends Ky and we spent the week soaking up the sun, drinking too many frozen drinks, and doing all the touristy things.

25th Quarter Century Birthday at Incahoots and jumping out of a plane for the first time.

I started my Sophmore year in college and joined the SDSU Rowing Team where I met another one of my best friends, Tiana.

Tiana convinces me to do my very 1st triathlon in Mission Bay.

Went to Vegas 2x in 2012 and reunited with my best friend Nicole after a short lived falling out of about 2 years.

My sister got married to the love of her life Tarick!

I received a birthday present that I didn’t ask for, a cat named Icarus. He has been the greatest cat I’ve ever had and I wouldn’t exchange this unwanted gift for the world. Read his Furever Home story here.

I ran my first half marathon in 2hrs and 3 mins!

Got my Disney Passport and spent the majority of the year with Hannah at Disney and Incahoots.

My sister had her wedding celebration where we got to spend an amazing night with family and friends.

I met Andrew on Match.com which turned into the most wonderful relationship ever! This is the highlight of my decade!

Completed my first Olympic Triathlon.

First Stagecoach with my best friend Hannah.

Graduation came and I earned a BS in Kinesiology.

Spent the rest of the year exploring with Andrew. We went to Sequoia and Yosemite National Park. I also moved in with him after a couple of months of dating hehe. Then we ended the year with a trip to Zion and Grand Canyon National Park.

Mother’s Day at the beautiful Carlsbad Flower Fields. Little did I know it would be our last Mother’s Day with our mama.

Andrews First Stagecoach, yee yee!

Went to my first NHL game in Anaheim to watch Detroit Red Wings vs. Anaheim Ducks.

Andrew Graduates with his Bachelors in Aeronautics! So proud of this man.

My grandmother passed away suddenly this year while my mom was extremely sick. This is when my decade started taking a turn for the worst. However, she left with me the most beautiful memories a girl could ask for.

Went to Zion again with Andrew to do some hike we missed out on the year before.

Spent 8 weeks with my mom which was such a blessing and I was inspired to start this lil’ ol’ blog.

The lowest point of the decade, my mother passed away from Stage IV Sarcoma. My emotions were everywhere but as a family we got through it one day at a time. I cherish the lessons she taught me and the memories we had together.

Stagecoach Round 3 (trying to keep my mind off of the world around me)

My best friend Nicole gets married!

My sister gets her degree in Anthropology and I couldn’t have been more proud.

Making new traditions with my Best Friend Will! Mammoth Lakes for Whiskey & Rye Festival!

Vegas trip with some of my favorites and King of Country concert!

Texas Trip for Halloween to see my best friend, Nicole.

Ended the year walking 60 miles for Breast Cancer.

My sister takes me to see my childhood crush, John Mayer!

Stagecoach Round 5! haha

Climbed Mt. Baldy and San Bernardino Peak with Hannah.

Minnesota Trip and summer camping with Andrew’s family.

Switched it with a Tequila Festival in Mammoth!

Fall colors Mammoth Trip with my sis!

Key West to see one of my best friends, Casey, get married.

Lake Arrowhead trip with my sister.

Joshua Tree trip with friends before we move!

Andrew retired after 20 years in the United States Navy!

Leave San Diego to move to Oregon and Andrew and I bought our first house.

Yet another Vegas trip!

My best friend Nicole has her first baby!

Wow! What a decade! Filled with so many Stagecoach, Mammoth, and Vegas trips. I climed a dozen mountains and visited 6 National Parks! So many rough times but surrounded by loved ones to help me get through it. This decade was filled with love, new life, great accomplishments and a ton of firsts!

Although I lost two of the most important figures in my life, it has been a good ten years.

The past ten years have taught me a lot of things but these are the most important things I’ve learned:

  • Never settle with love. You deserve to be picky, to be respected, and to have everything you want in a partner. Don’t be afraid of ending chapters because you never know what new ones will start.
  • Cherish your loved ones. You never know when they will be taken away from you.
  • Make traditions with your friends and family. They make for the best memories.
  • Live like you were dying! Go place you want to go, spend time with those that lift you up, try new things, and be open to the world around you.

Happy almost 2020 you guys! I hope you get to do your own reflection on your decade and remember the highlights and what the things you have learned. I would love to hear about your life and what you most enjoyed
